A Different Arena (a novel, on CD)
This book was written with the intention of showing how it is possible
to ride and train horses without using fear or force, and to present this
information in a way that will appeal to a wide audience. It has become
very much more than that, operating on many different levels.
The story focuses on Liz, who has fibromyalgia (a muscle disease) and
how she learns to overcome it. She finds direction from an obscure manuscript
written by a Carthusian monk in the 16th century. In fact, the monastery
still exists in Jerez, Spain, and the monks still breed superb Andalusians.
Liz also is emotionally scarred — a parallel theme evolves illustrating
the power of the mind, as she battles against shonky instructors, shady
horse dealers and nasty competitors.
The 10 chapters are aligned with the ascending levels of dressage tests,
looking briefly at what is important in each stage. Additionally, each
chapter reveals some little-known information about horse training, riding
and husbandry..

The
Five Dressage Essentials
A
structured, step-by-step guide that details how to accomplish each of
the Five Essentials of dressage (Mobility, Tempo, Bending, Transitions
and Lateral Work). Additionally, there are instructions on how to give
correct voice cues and how to train using the reward system and and the
sequences of movements from Preliminary up to Grand Prix. All movements
are explained with ground work first and then applying the lesson to ridden
work.
A Formula For Success
This explains how to train your horse classically and achieve success
in competition, and is presented with explanations, illustrations, diagrams
and photographs. The formula shows how it is more effective to control
the horse through his brain than through the use of physical strength.
The following technical issues are covered:
-
How to develop collection
-
Four ways to hold his attention
-
The classical position and seat
-
The three schooling essentials
-
How to avoid problems
Also
included are clarifications of the following concepts: behind the vertical,
on the bit, on the aids, rollkur, forward-down-out, poll high and lightness.
There are many ways to do dressage, but if this formula is followed, nobody
can ever say you are wrong, you will not damage your horse, and you will
never feel guilty.
